EDUCATION AT HCHM
Connecting students and communities to the history of Harrison County.
EDUCATION AT HCHM
The museum’s education programs connect students, teachers, and adults to Harrison County’s real story.
Field trips are free for local schools. Workshops give teachers tools they can use back in the classroom. And
adults can keep learning through programs designed specifically for them.
History @ Lunch brings speakers and local stories to a midday format designed for adults who want to keep learning. Day Camp for Adults draws on the same spirit as the kids’ camp. The humor is a little dryer, but the curiosity is just as real.
A half-day camp where kids spend a week learning local history alongside professional educators who actually know how to make it stick. It’s structured and hands-on, which means most kids leave genuinely interested in something they didn’t expect to care about. Registration typically opens in spring. Check the events page or follow us on Facebook for announcements.
Free, held annually, and designed for teachers who want to see the museum as a live classroom resource rather than a one-off trip. The workshop includes a full museum experience, TEKS-aligned instruction, and make-and-take activities for pre- and post-visit use in the classroom. If you’ve ever wanted your students to connect with something real, this workshop is worth a morning.
Students walk through the 1901 Courthouse and come face to face with artifacts from their own county’s history. Museum docents lead each visit, drawing on real objects to build critical thinking and historical perspective. Every trip is tailored to the grade level and the curriculum the class is already working through.
Field trips are free for all Harrison County public and homeschool students. Every student goes home with a family admission ticket so parents can come see what their kids experienced.
All field trips are aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Free for Harrison County schools and homeschool students.
