OUR EXHIBITS
Artifacts from actual people, places and events of Harrison County.
That’s how one visitor put it after walking through. We couldn’t say it better.
“The exhibit is rich with artifacts and stories and offers interesting ways for visitors to ‘enter into’ the county’s history and see themselves as part
of a continuum.”

OUR EXHIBITS
Voices from the Past.
Objects That Belonged to Real People.
Conversations Worth Having.
Something to Think About on the Drive Home.
MAIN GALLERY · 1901 COURTHOUSE · 1 PETER WHETSTONE SQUARE
Step into the 1901 Courthouse and you’re stepping into the county’s own building, a place where Harrison County has conducted its business since before Texas was a state. The exhibits match the setting. Caddo pottery, pioneer records, religious artifacts from Marshall’s early Jewish community, tools, photographs, and household objects tell the county’s story from 1839 forward.
This isn’t history that happened somewhere else. It happened here, on these roads, in these churches, in the homes of families whose descendants still live in this community. That’s what makes the Main Gallery feel different from anything in a textbook.

MAIN GALLERY · 1901 COURTHOUSE · 1 PETER WHETSTONE SQUARE
The Service & Sacrifice Gallery is one of the most complete exhibits of local military history in East Texas. Twenty-two-plus exhibit units cover every major American conflict from the Civil War to the War on Terror, with artifacts, photographs, documents, and interactive displays that put Harrison County servicemembers at the center of the story.
Walk through and you’ll see the actual objects these men and women carried, wore, and brought home. The Hometown Heroes touchscreen database holds hundreds of records. If someone in your family served, there’s a real chance they’re already in there.

The Children’s Discovery Center gives kids a hands-on place to explore while you take your time with the exhibits. Pick up a free Museum Activity Book at the front and let them color the courthouse, search for hidden objects, and decorate a Caddo pot.
