Preserving the Past.
Inspiring the Future.

Harrison County has a story nearly 200 years in the making. Parts of it almost

certainly belong to your family.

WHAT WE DO

We Collect, Preserve, and Share the Stories That Made This County

The Harrison County Historical Museum collects, preserves and shares the

stories, artifacts, and traditions that shape our community and connect us to one

another.

That means the photographs on your grandmother’s shelf, the service record of a

cousin who flew in WWII, and the tools that built this town. All of it matters here.

OUR EXHIBITS

Two Galleries. Four Centuries of

Harrison County History.

1901 Courthouse · 1 Peter Whetstone Square

Harrison County History Gallery

Inside the 1901 Courthouse at 1 Peter Whetstone Square, the Main Gallery tells Harrison County’s full story, from its founding by the Republic of Texas to the present. Caddo artifacts, Civil War documents, and objects from Marshall families sit side by side, each one a piece of this county’s long memory.

Memorial City Hall · 110 East Houston

Service & Sacrifice: Harrison County at War

The Service & Sacrifice Gallery at Memorial City Hall documents every American conflict from the Civil War to the War on Terror through 22-plus exhibit units. These aren’t distant abstractions. They belonged to real people from Harrison County, including four Tuskegee Airmen who grew up right here in Marshall.

It’s the reason this museum exists. And the reason these stories must be told.

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

— Marcus Garvey
